Burrito Loco

Eatertainer Dec 3, 2009 09:43 AM

Just came back from Burrito Loco on Charles Street (Toronto). When i arrived, I was ready to be unimpressed since it wasn't the fanciest looking joint. It used to be a Quizno's and they've just ripped out the old logos, put up their signs and hung some sombreros.

But, i have to say that i was more than impressed. It's much more authentic than the faux burrito joints that overload the wrap with cheap white rice. I ordered the steak and i'd be surprised if there was more than a spoonful of rice in there. it was mostly steak, followed by refried beans, veggies and cheese.

For added value the ladies preparing the food were two spicy Mexican sisters.

I live just a couple of blocks from there and have not been in months. While it was ok when it opened the product has been shrinking over the past year. The flavours are a bit on the bland side as well. OP mentions refried beans, however if I remember correctly they just provide a small smear of mashed up black beans that's spread on the tortila.

Has anyone been there lately? Wondering if the food is still decent. It is featured on the daily deal at Redflagdeals today. $10 for 2 burritos, 2 large drinks and a bag of chips:

It's a pretty standard Toronto burrito: Filling, but not all that exciting. It's more like the Burrito Boyz style than Chipotle, with less rice. At the regular price, I haven't been terribly motivated to make more than a couple of visits. I think the deal is well worth it, though, and I ordered two vouchers myself.

What kind of drinks do they have? Anything sort of different and not overly articial? I rarely buy drinks when I go out for lunch but make an exception if there's something interesting like strawberry-flavoured lemonaid or something...

Edible it used to be a Quiznos location and still looks pretty much the same with some mexican decor tossed up and jars of salsa in the slots where the pepper/condiment bar used to be. So there's the same old fountain pop machine and a cooler with various pop, juice and bottled water. I don't remember there being anything much different from what you'd see at a Quiznos, but I usually just opt for the fountain when eeting in.

OK, so no great loss I missed the buy--doesn't sound as obviously economical if you don't buy a drink.
