Arugula salad w/quince dressing and cold lamb sandwich both good. Really liked the caramelized onions on the lamb sandwich. But the profiterole blew me away. Pure, silky cream filling. Will save me from driving down to Filling Station for eclairs.

Come summer (even spring), a Julienne picnic basket, a nice blanket, a softly chilled zin, plus the Hollywood Bowl = heaven on earth.

Only bummer is the Langer's-style hours. Also, San Marino makes me feel like I'm trapped in a Henry James novel.

Likewise - I live walking distance from Julienne, but have never eaten there because I feel like I'm walking into Stepford!

I'm not a sandwich or sweets person, and I know that's mostly what J is known for. Is there anything else they serve that is savory and could motivate me to overcome my fear of Stepford??

Have never had anything there I didn't love (ESPECIALLY the lambwich!). As for the atmosphere, I think Henry James is a nice change from Raymond Chandler...once in a while.

Nothing, but isn't Julienne really more like something out of Updike rather than James?

Nice salads. The closest thing we have to it on the westside is Clementine, I guess, but Julienne is prettier as is the neighborhood.

You might say Updike or Cheever, but my subjective feeling is more of oppressive social convention than well-heeled ennui. Will have to check out Clementine for comparison.

I go there for breakfast most of the time. I love the creme brulee french toast. It's more like a bread pudding than a french toast. The rosemary raisin bread, toasted, is really good. Egg dishes are good too.
