Dinner near Fox Theater/Detroit

Any suggestions? Have been to Angelina Bistro a couple of times now. Would like to try something new. Thanks!

Vicentes Cuban Cuisine is convenient to the Fox.
We walked the few blocks from Vicentes to the
Fox, but we had four people in our party carrying a
    total of 7 handguns.

My observations based on one experience:

    My paela was very good.

    The waitstaff was good.

A few too many tables. I hate being bumped by
staff or customers trying to navigate the floor. The
    bumping was perpetual.

    The restaurant is noisy.

Bus boy is waaaay aggressive. He asked each person at our table, "Finished?"
Each answered, "No." He took their plates anyway.

I think I was the 4th person he did this with. I distinctly ennunciated, "NO." He
took my plate; so I grabbed his wrist and repeated "No, non, nyet" and retrieved
    my plate from his hand.

A few minutes pass; the manager arrives ... telling me not to touch his staff. Mgr didn't inquire if there was a problem and wasn't interested in our side of the
story ... until the gold shields starting hitting the table.

We weren't squatting at the table; or being a fuss. Just 3 couples out for a
    pre-show dinner.

The busboy continued his Finished? & Snatch drill at other tables.

WOW! This is what can only be described as a *major league* turn-off for me. I would not only have grabbed said busboy's hand...I would have been *shouting* for the manager after the first repeated incidence. Were it to happen again, even to just one person in my party, I would get up, explain to the manager exactly why we were leaving without paying, and then do so, never again to return. Then I'd write online about the experience with such vitriol that there'd be no way on God's green earth that anyone who read about my experience would go there. It's one thing to make an honest mistake...this kid is just trying to be a twit and turn the table quickly, obviously per management. NOBODY SCREWS WITH MY FOOD.

Thanks for warning me off the place. That sounds positively awful.

I agree with boagman (another excellent 'hound). I will spread the word NOT to go there. While the busboy may honestly be an idiot, there is no excuse for the mgr. to treat customers that way.

I once killed a busboy for taking my glass of milk early.....but that is a whole different thread.

That is not my goal. I'll return, but be on guard for the premature plate snatch.
The paela was very good. The waitstaff was competent. Given the typical turn-over
in busboys; I'm guessing that this miscreant has likely departed.

Next time, to hopefully avoid the noise, I'll request the table in the storefront window.

Personal observations: 1) The food is pretty darn good for a place with few Cubans. 2) I have noticed that the busboys are what the Germans call "abräumensfreudig" or keen on clearing your stuff away, and I'd wish they'd quit it. However, simple statements that we're not finished have always been politely honored.

I thought the food and service was excellent. A little noisy, but thats ok with me. Probably not good if you want a nice, romantic dinner.

You could try Cliff Bell's. I haven't eaten dinner there, but the ambiance is nice, the menu looks great, and you can't get much closer to the Fox.
