Any other sources for Katz's Olio Nuovo in the East Bay?
SFoodie says it's available at both Pasta Shop locations. Is it going to be sold anywhere else? (And, incidentally, is it as good as its reputation suggests?)

I think the CSA isn't offering that fancy olio nuovo stuff, just the chef's pick.

Soul Food's CSA has both Chef's Pick and Meyer lemon, so I expect they will sell the December's New Oil now that it's available. I'll post here if and when it shows up on the order form.

Okay, it's not in the East Bay, but The Fatted Calf in Napa has got the Katz olio nuovo.

Can it be ordered and have the team bring it to the Sunday Berkeley Farmers Market?

I went by the Rockridge Pasta Shop thinking I'd pick up a bottle, but they had tastes out for both Katz's and Frescobaldi, and the latter had more of the bite I associate with olio nuovo and fruitier flavor, so I got that instead. Same $24 for a smaller bottle (250ml vs. 375ml).

What do you use the nuovo for, Robert? Just dipping, or also for cooking?

I wouldn't cook it. Mostly I just dip bread and enjoy the sharp bite. You can also use it to finish a dish. From katzandco.com:
"... a good loaf of rustic bread, sliced and grilled, then slathered with KATZ Organic December’s New Oil and lightly sprinkled with a pinch of good salt ... Poached eggs over toast, a hearty lentil soup with some fresh kale or chard, creamy polenta with a with a simply roasted chicken or duck, and grilled fish all finished with a liberal drizzle ..."
Here are some ideas from Oliveto:
❖Antipasti misti: Ceci bean purée, broccoli di Ciccio, and fresh mozzarella di bufala with new oil
❖Butternut squash sformatino with new oil
❖First-of-the-season Porcini mushrooms with Castelmagno cheese and pancetta vinaigrette
❖Orecchiette pasta with smoked mozzarella di bufala and turnips greens with new oil
❖Charcoal-grilled local black cod with celery root and leek gratin, green peppercorn-new oil sauce

I emailed Soul Food to ask and they won't be selling the New Oil. Also, they forwarded my email to Albert Katz, who said he'll be sold out by next week. So if you want some, don't dawdle.
