Knowing which previous post the post you are reading is replying to

Jfood stumbled on this about 2 weeks ago and someone else just posted this process as well on another thread.
If you are wondering which previous post a poster is responding to you click on the name next to the "re:" in the upper right of the post and it will highlight which post above is the reply to. For example jfood replies to a post by "foodie987" yet there are four posts by foodie987 already in the thread. In the upper right of jfood's reply it will read "re: foodie987". If you click on it, the replied to post will turn yellow above.
Jfood apologizes for the horrible grammar but it is extremely helpful.
I just noticed for the first time today that when I selected one of my posts from "All Activity", that it briefly came up highlighted yellow even though my specific entry was closed.
I believe that is only if you are replying to the OP...
What annoys me is when you click on a poster's name in the upper right corner, the post highlights in a momentary yellow glow, but the whole thread may fly to the beginning or stay where it is and move up a notch or two, to the post you were looking for. (I believe, in theory, the view is re-centering on the selected post)
If this is the first time you do this on a previously visited thread it might not be hard to find the person's post when you scroll back down, but often it can get lost in a sea of open posts. This doesn't help when you were probably trying to make some sense of one or two specific interchanges in the first place.
