Aruba & Curcao This Xmas??
All the posts on Aruba are old. Hasn't anyone been there in 2009? We would love some great recommendations. All the tour books mention steak houses. I saw some great suggestions for Curacao on this site.
We are heading there for xmas vacation.
Thank you!

Just got back from Aruba a few days ago. It was my first visit and we did an all inclusive at the Divi. I did, however, get out a try a few places that I would highly recommend. The Rumba Wine Bar was great, very relaxed, nice staff. Went with the fried grouper sandwich and it was delicious. Very light crisp coating, roll didn't overwhelm. DC had the chopped tenderloin sandwich and was quite tasty. The beef was really tender. On the ore expensive side, Madame Janette was fabulous. Lovely setting, open with twinkling white lights and attentive staff. My choice was the Argentinia tenderloin with shrimp and caribbean lobster. They had 3 sauces to choose from and I went with the green peppercorn cognac sauce, perfection! Another pricey place, was Windows on Aruba. Appetizers were in the $15 to $25 range, with entrees at $26 to $56. Started with the spinach ravioli on garlic mashed with I think gorgonzola. Sounds like an odd combination but it worked. My rack of lamb came cooked as ordered and was quite good. All 3 of these places I would return to. I had also hoped to try Wacky Wahoos in the high rise area, but unfortunately didn't get there. Have a great vacation! Happy eating!

I had no idea about the grouper being overfished. Next time i'll know. It really makes you stop and think! To mirandabrooklyn CocoDan is referring to a local place in Quincy, Massachusetts that we both enjoy. So, if you're ever in the area give it a try. Wish I had more info on Aruba places. It may help if you check aruba.com that's where I got much of my info.

Curacao was amazing and the water is crystal clear. We had a great ristaffel at Temple Deloe -- 17 courses of curries, sates and salads. Janches also up Island was a solid local lunch place, but leave plenty of time for this as they are slower than molasses. Birder chirping and mosquitoes biting. Nice people. My son had the stwed iguana and loved it..he is sixteen. We ate curried goat and some fish, all fresh and good. Nearby some expats have a dinner place called Sol (owner is from NH and is called Sunshine). Only open on Thurs-Sunday when we were there. Good pizzas and fresh simple food...but also be prepared to spend three hours for dinner. We stayed at Hotel Kuralanda Beach Resort and loved it. Food is very good at their restaurants....hotel prices but good. Nice bartenders with generous drinks! Many local beaches have food stands...burgers, salads and sandwiches. the french frie is ubiquitous...must be dutch influence. Couldn't get served for breakfast at Daniel..hear they had good "pankakken" - Dutch pancakes -- but why tell people you serve breakfast and then tell them you only have coffee and tarts?? A big disappointment, We never got the food stalls in Williested..sadly.
