Ho Lee Chow Resurrected

Looks like Ho Lee Chow is back but is going by the name of HLC Foods. I got a flyer in the mail the other that looked very much like the original Ho Lee Chow menu but the name had changed. Dang....thought they were gone for good.

  1. I also thought Holy Cow was down for the count. Too bad they can't/won't rethink and reinvent the concept. Stellar versions of utterly bastardized Chinese dishes might work. Much as we crap on them, a killer Egg Foo Yung does have a place in your life--bad food court Chinese doesn't.

      I got the flyer too and it's the same old thing they're just down to one store. When their demise was announced on here and in the papers we drove by the Dundas location enroute to QEW and it was open with a sign saying "we're OPEN!" out front. Apparently they have, think they have, or are trying to create some sort of following.

      1. I got a message from them a few weeks ago saying they were in business. They must have gone digging pretty deep in their customer archives - I hadn't ordered from Ho Lee Chow in ages!

          Is this the location on Yonge St., north of Lawrence? I drove by it last week and the pop refrigerators were still full, plugged in and lit up.

        2. I believe that it's only the Dundas & Jarvis location that is operating under the HLC Foods name.

          Most of them were franchises, so even though the parent company went under, the individual locations could stay open if they chose & could afford to do so. There's one on St. Clair West that is still open as Ho Lee Chow, although I'm not sure if they'll be able to keep the name once legal proceedings in relation to the bankruptcy get under way.

          1. I had it once, never again. Terrible food and extremely overpriced.
