I think Crush is a really nice choice. I'd definitely endorse that pick.
My other favourites in that area are Tutti Matti or you could try Nota Bene or Vertical since both are about the same walking distance as Crush.
Oh, and I like Le Select too (but only if you're into eating at the bar... personal tick, but I think it changes the vibe entirely). It's also a good choice for wine lovers.
Do let us know where you end up!

I've always loved Crush for a variety of reasons. The food is solid, and the wine service/knowledge is exceptional with the staff. They are professional without the prima donna attitude that permeates many service environments in Toronto these days. I also respect the fact that this was the first wine bar in Toronto thus contributing to a higher standard in the city's wine scene.
But aside from all that, I would go and grab a glass of Dr. Janos Stumpf's Kekfrankos (if they still have some left). Its kick ass, confident and at risk of being misunderstood just like some Hungarians I know. But be careful-I am convinced it has absinthe like qualities if drunk in large quantities...

Hi P,
I've always loved the lamb and scallop preps. They've been cooked to perfection every time I've had them. The dishes are simple and straightforward but very tasty-I always know a well made stock when I can taste those sticky collagens in the sauce.

thanks SWS...will try to remember to give the scallops and/or lamb a try next time I'm in the hood.
