Dining around the W Hotel

I will be staying at the W Hotel on Square Victoria (between downtown and Old Montreal) and am looking for somewhere close by for dinner. We are 2 women in our 30's, looking for somewhere not too expensive but with good atmosphere and good food (not picky on what kind of food, though tend to like French, Italian, Meditteranean, fusion, etc). Any suggestions appreciated!

    1. You're a few blocks north of Bistro Holder. There's also Garde Manger, in Old Montreal a little farther from your hotel. Either would work.

        1. Couple of suggestions close to the hotel.

          1. If you're talking about a Friday or Saturday evening, Andiamo, Jérôme Ferrer's new Mediterranean, mostly pescatarian restaurant, could be worth a shot. www.andiamo.ca

Is Cluny Artbar still doing Thursday evenings? If so, that would be a funky, insider option. www.cluny.info

              1. If you're willing to walk about 1.5 km, Decca 77 is not too far and has a great prix fixe

I would say for the atmosphere Garde Manger is a good option - the restaurant has a great vibe and has a sort of redneck-chic themed menu. I find it to be as much of a bar as it is a restaurant, so be aware that it can get a bit noisy in there.

You're also not too far from Toqué which is considered one of Montreal's finest. I'm afraid I've never been so couldn't give you a personal opinion.

I also like Boris Bistro on McGill - but I've only eaten on the terasse in the summer, and I've heard that unfortunately the interior is very dissapointing.

Unfortunately I don't think Toqué would meet the OP's requirement of "somewhere not too expensive." ;-)

True, I hadn't thought of that.
