Jarred Chestnuts in San Diego?

Every year I look, and every year I fail. Any suggestions on where to find jarred chestnuts? The local supermarkets don't have them. If you've spotted them or bought them, please share!

  1. I haven't found them in jars, but have had luck with finding steamed/packaged ones at both Trader Joe's and Marukai Market!

Yup, i buy them at Marukai or Mitsuwa, too! They're in foil packets. Way easier than roasting your own chestnuts!

    2. I saw`some at Major Market last week.

      1. I found them at Whole Foods. They were around $8/jar.

Probably a little early but they roast them on the back side of 99 ranch around the holidays.

              Good to know, thanks.

Diva there are also tons of high quality options online, i've been ordering some pantry items from Amazon and have not yet been disapointed, they have some good importers.

        2. Williams-Sonoma carries them.

          1. I ended up getting the shelf-stable chestnuts at TJ's. They were disgusting -- slimy and had a weird sweet flavor. I will check Williams-Sonoma or WF for jarred and get them now for Christmas. Normally I roast fresh chestnuts, but I hate to peel them! Thanks, all!

I did the same and am glad to know that you had the same opinion of TJ's 'bargain' chestnuts. Blech ;]
