that's unfortunate about kirin. easily one of the better higher-end chinese restaurants in the city.

cactus club...you'll definitely find cocktails and the menu consists of standard food done well. it likely won't be a memorable experience though.

If you can handle the up and downhill walk - then Peaceful Restaurant at Broadway (which is "9th") and Cambie-ish is a board favourite. Up along Cambie and 16th is Shanghai Village - pretty decent Shanghai restaurant and Mexican Tortas (a Mexican sandwich joint).

y'know, there's a restaurant (2 actually) in Winnipeg, called Stella's,... not associated with the beer company,... more like from "Streetcar Named Desire" with Marlon Brando yelling "Stella!".......

Sounds like your appointment is in City Square. There is a lounge where you can have a cocktail upstairs called Lifestyles. They serve food there as well. Only other restaurant in there is on the 3rd floor called Kirin (which is Asian) and would serve cocktails too. There is also a food court in City Square but it might not be open after 5. http://www.mycitysquare.com/

I just looked at Kirin's website and they are closed for renovations til Dec. 1st. I think you said you're here in 2 days so that won't be an option. The only "real" restaurant close by then is Figmint. It is right across the street at 12th & Cambie. Lifestyles in the mall does pasta, salads etc. It's edible, but it's pre-made microwaved food. They have a very tiny kitchen in there. Here's Figmints menu for you. http://www.figmintrestaurant.com/kitc...

If you need coffee, tea or pastries, there's a new coffee shop opening up tomorrow in City Square on the second level. They're using a new coffee roaster to Vancouver (and Canada!) called PT's Coffee. PT's is based out of Topeka, Kansas and was named roaster of the year for 2009 by Roast Magazine. Spoke with the owners this morning and it looks like it will be a quality spot!

You'd have to walk down Ash to Broadway - 3 blocks for Cactus Club. Kalamata is also on Broadway the other way about 3 blocks. Your short time may be cut even shorter by walking which might not be an option for you anyway!
