No ability to link to Wine Country restaurants since Oct 07, 2009

I thought I'd include the year in the title just to keep track of how long this will take to fix. As of this post it has been seven weeks.

"Thanks for this feedback. The problem is that the link to a place options are limited to 60 miles from SF, which we now see is far too small a radius, so we will alter that so that healdsburg and other SFBay Area places beyond 60 miles can be found. "

"Hello, any timetable for fixing this? You've shut out those of us in the North Bay/Wine Country and South Bay/Gilroy from using links.

Fwiw, the border between Sonoma County and Mendocino County, which is the northern edge of the SF Bay Area region is approx. 100 miles from San Francisco. The southern boundary of Santa Clara County is about 80 miles from SF."

So the tech team has had the parameters that would work for the Bay Area for a few weeks now.

Is it a big problem to fix? Is it even on the list to be fixed?

How long before an added restaurant should be available to review?

    1. In another thread JS posted that zip codes would be tried in January as a way to define regions.

That would work better for the SF region than defining a radius. Afterall, SF sits on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, so half the area of a circle around it is under water. The Bay Area region is long and skinny, just like California. I've notice that addresses for Tracy and Santa Cruz are included in the R&B database for SF, which means that they probably can't be linked to from the California board as they should be. Hopefully zip code definition can solve that.

        1. Have you tested this recently? I just successfully linked to a place in Cloverdale, CA, the northernmost part of Wine Country.

This should be fixed. We redefined the board boundaries for SF when we released the new boards.

Yes, thank you. I tried it for the southernmost areas in Gilroy and Morgan Hill, and it's working for those sections too. And now I can no longer link places in Tracy, which is outside the region. I noticed that towns on the border, but outside the def'n of the SF Bay Area, such as Felton can be linked from both Calif. and SF boards.

                    1. re: Melanie Wong

Yeah, that's intentional. We set it up so that there's a core central area that can only be linked on SF, and then a bigger box around that that can be linked on both, because board doesn't cover an area that's perfectly square (or perfectly round, which is our other option). There's not as much in the hazy border areas so it doesn't drag down the search overly much.

                        1. re: Jacquilynne

A hazy border line, good idea.

I also noticed that at the same time the number of R&B records in the SF roll increased by about 600. These didn't land on the very last page (currently #1376) which is where records that are newly created first appear. Is this increase from pulling in existing records for the Wine Country and other parts of SF Bay Area that had been excluded?

Thanks for the heads-up. I linked to Tierra in Santa Rosa finally.
