Need a romantic recommendation quick!

I want to take my wife out tonight to a nice quiet restaurant where we can dress up and not feel overdressed. A candle light dinner would be fantastic but i don't expect that. I am not too particular about where or what kind of food, the mood is more important. And where is the best place for roses that will actually last and look good (HEB roses last longer than most flower shops that I have tried)? Anybody?

  1. Hmm, the quiet part is the toughest. Seems like all the new restaurants are very loud these days. Or I'm just getting old.

Anyway, I'll suggest Fabi and Rosi. Nice romantic setting in a little house and you can make reservations. Not super quiet, but if you ask when you make your reservation, you might request a nice cozy table in one of the corners. Here's the link:

As for flowers, try Austin Flower Co on 35th. More of a bulk flower place, but you could pick up a couple dozen long stems and not break the bank. Here's a link with some info:

    1. If tradition is your game, you might try Green Pastures - 811 W Live Oak St
      Austin, TX 78704 - (512) 444-4747 -

As for roses, long-lasting beauties are currently available cash and carry - $10.99 for 1 dozen at the North Austin location of Freytag's Florist, 2211 W. Anderson Lane, Austin - (512) 371-5638 - -

      1. Thanks for the suggestions, they sound wonderful. My wife and I have been separated and I am trying to win her back, so someplace quiet enough to talk comfortably is important. I have been to Green Pastures once many years ago, but have never been to Fabi & Rosi. However, their menu looks fantastic, and one thing that really caught my eye was apfel strudel + vanilla eis, which I discovered while in Germany once and always wanted more. The roses at Freytag's also sound great, I will have to try them (they are not listed on the website).

        1. What about Chez Zee? listed it as #3 on their list "Top 10 Most Romantic Restaurants in Austin". And the menu certainly looks interesting. How about the loudness level?

I went to Chez Zee for brunch one time. It was loud. The pianist was playing Van Halen. There was nothing romantic about it. The servers wear headsets.

and ended up at Cafe Josie. My husband and I enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere is very romantic and the food is great.
