Cooking With Marlena Spieler
We had the media here..her auntie was making matzo balls, we had a feast! It was at my house and I'm still on cloud 9. Marlena writes lots of cookbooks and writes Roving Feast for the SF Chronicle...and she contributes to magazines. She has a feature coming out in Savuer very soon.
Anyway...it all began with a question I posed to her in an email 3 years ago. Now, 2 other food bloggers and myself are cooking and blogging our way thru her Jewish Cooking coobook. It was so surreal to sit with her.. and watch her on CBS Sunday morning making mac n cheese! (They edited much of her interview out...damn them). She was in SF, and has family here in Sacramento, so it worked out perfectly. It was so cool to have her here. Her aunt is Estelle Opper...who is "famous" in her own right..and we had a blast. The reporter and photographer stayed for 4 hours!! We all made/brought dishes that we've been blogging about.
Synchronicity is a beautiful thing...and so is Marlena. So gracious and unassuming...and so funny!
Just had to share. Yes, we took the idea from Julie Powell..but we don't care. If you want to follow along http://www.cookingschmooking.blogspot... and I have the other two bloggers linked up. Next Sunday? Marlena is joining us at Shankari's house for an Indian feast!
Lucky you Melly, thanks for blogging about it.
Marlena has been one of my favorite food writers for years.

We recently had a huge appreciation dinner for Marlena in SF at Zare at Fly Trap in the SOMA district. Fabulous food and fun night! Many of her SF area friends came and we had a blast. She is the nicest person. The Fancy Food Show was happening too....yay!
