Lots of fish markets in Chinatown have live lobsters. Also Sea Breeze on Ninth Avenue near the Port Authority. And I bought some over the summer from the Blue Moon guys at the Greenmarket. I haven't checked lately to see if they still have them.
If you make that bisque recipe I'd love to read a report of how it went. It piqued my interest too.

Thanks again to everyone. We went to Lobster Farm in Chinatown (it was open until 2). The Bittman bisque was quite labor intensive but everyone loved it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though, and thought the lobster meat was a bit tough--it may have been because we overboiled it a few minutes, though.
