what's the best place to get live lobsters on the UES?

Lots of fish markets in Chinatown have live lobsters. Also Sea Breeze on Ninth Avenue near the Port Authority. And I bought some over the summer from the Blue Moon guys at the Greenmarket. I haven't checked lately to see if they still have them.

If you make that bisque recipe I'd love to read a report of how it went. It piqued my interest too.

Down in China Town you can get good quality live Maine lobsters at the fish markets for about 19 dollars for 3 lobsters.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Are the Chinatown markets open on Thanksgiving, does anyone know? The places on the UES don't seem to be.

Thanks again to everyone. We went to Lobster Farm in Chinatown (it was open until 2). The Bittman bisque was quite labor intensive but everyone loved it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though, and thought the lobster meat was a bit tough--it may have been because we overboiled it a few minutes, though.

How much were the lobsters at the Lobster Farm? And, which one did you go to? The one on Hester?

If you're looking for a restaurant, many place sn Chinatown (both Manhattan and Flushing) have tanks of live lobsters.
