PHL - Blue Sage chef coming to Philadelphia

This is very good news:

I know the Blue Sage doesn't get the recognition on this board that Horizons does, but I've always liked the food at the Blue Sage better. I'm not a vegetarian, though, that may be why (Horizons is vegan, Blue Sage is vegetarian).

    1. Great news, but i have serious doubts about that location. It's kind of a no-man's land. It will have to be a real destination kind of place to make it. I hope it works out.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about that, but the Blue Sage fits the bill as a 'destination' I think, especially for vegetarians. The previous occupant, Root, was not very good, so hopefully their short tenure there isn't indicative of how the Blue Sage will do.

yay! that's good news for me! root had poor reviews from the start... but this area gets better every day! there have been a couple places (jose's burritos, sazon, that thai place) that have been there as long as i've been in the area (4 years) but in the last couple years places like osteria, the prohibition taproom and the institute are really helping this area come along. plus, it's a great area to avoid the weekend crowds (maybe i should let y'all keep thinking it's a no-man's land to keep it that way!! :)

Do you mean Siam Lotus for the Thai place? That place was awesome, but closed a while ago (I thought). That was on my mind as an example of a good place not making it because of the tough neighborhood. "Eraserhead District," some call it, though that really refers to the part below SG.

I love Jose's too. I have not found a better burrito in Philadelphia, or even close. It is rare that I am cutting through those parts, but whenever I am, I stop for a burrito. Those blocks in there are pretty shady though...
