Mangia Pizza, Brookline (Village)

galleygirl Nov 23, 2009 05:41 AM

I always buy slices here, as a treat to myself...IMHO (only mine, I stress) it's second only to the original Regina's...I stopped for some slices Sat.night, and they were sold out. They offered to make me a pie in 6 or 7 minutes. Yeah, right...
I got their Pizza Bianco, one of my faves, pesto, cheese, lotsa garlic.and cubed tomatoes. As promised, from the time I got out of my car, to the moment I slid the box, with its still bubbling pie into the back seat, it was 10 minutes...And man, was it good. I've never ordered a whole pie from there, but I certainly will frequently from now on...It was as good as mine!

Based on your recommendations, GG, I tried a slice a few weeks back. It was spectacular. Heads up......there is a groupon offer for Mangia today on Facebook. $10 for $20 worth of Mangia goodness!!! It's only for the South End location though (dang!).

Yes I do whole pies on occasion inc.luding the bianco. I do worry about getting it across Beacon St. while it is still hot.

Stopped in recently for a slice. Seems different. Has there been a change in ownership?

I heard there was an ownership change a while back...

Thanks for coming up with an explanation for its decline. They used to use sliced Italian sausage, but switched to the gross crumbles. The menu STILL says sliced Italian sausage on the Calabrese. We e-mailed them about this, but never received any response.

And overall, just not very tasty anymore (we used to love it).
