APRICOT PASTE IN TORONTO

Hello All!

So I've joined Chowhound with one goal in mind... to find a place to buy apricot paste in Toronto. My boyfriend moved here from Paris and every time he goes back he stocks up on this delicious sticky stuff because he can't find it anywhere here. It would really mean a lot to me if someone could tell me a place where I can get it in the GTA so that I can make Canada feel a little bit more like home for him. The kind that he always gets is the one made in Syria by Mohamed El Shalati (see picture), but any kind will do.

If you know a place that sells this stuff, please please please let me know! I would be forever grateful!

Patrycja, you'll be happy to know that Ararat Fine Foods on Avenue Rd a few blocks south of Wilson carries Syrian dried apricot paste. It's across the street from No Frills.

I used to find it at Nasr (Lawrence and Warden area) but that store has reportedly either closed or gone so horribly downhill as to be almost terminal. I'm positive you'll find it at Arz Bakery in the same area. Any good Middle Eastern grocery store will almost definitely ahve it.

There are a few stores that specialise in fruits and nuts from Iran, you will find various flavours of "fruit leather" there and I know I've seen apricot. I can't remember the name of the store but there used to be one near West Beaver Creek and Leslie.
