Crab Cake SANDWICH

I almost dreaded posting my question after reading the discussion on Crab Cakes.. Seems this could be a senstive subject (lol)---- I moved to Baltimore with a lot of other Southern gals in the mid 80's.. (FYI--during the opening of Piedmont Airlines as a hub at BWI Airport) We all loved eating Crab Cake sandwiches-- We had NEVER had them before.. Well, after many years, this southern gal is returning to the East Coast and hoping for that same juicy sandwich.. Any suggestions of a casual dining spot in Washinton for this delectable sandwich???And NO, these were not gummy (yuck)--

Don't let this southerner down -- When you head South, I can hook you up on BBQ! :)

    1. The crabcake sandwich at CF Folks is quite good. Although I should mention that I haven't been there in quite awhile and they switched chefs awhile ago, so I'm not sure if that changed anything.

I also like the crab cake sandwich at Market Lunch----although it's a bit on the small side.

I last had the crabcake at CF a year ago, with the new chef. At the time it wasn't even on the menu and they were overjoyed someone requested it. It was not good. I have been back a couple of times since and everything else I've had (always a special) has been very good.

          • If you consider the burbs, Bobby's Crabcakes in Rockville does an excellent version.

              1. The ones at Market Lunch at the Eastern Market are pretty good. The Washingtonian had an article I think in the best bites blog about this. I normally wait till I am in MD or the Northern Neck as the ones in DC don't tend to be awesome. I have heard Oceanaire has good ones, but I hate that place their services and food just never has impressed me.

The crabcake sandwich at Market Lunch is classic Eastern Shore. Creamy crabcake with hand-picked meat from a packing house in MD. Made with just a bit of saltines to stick it together properly. The right kinda bun. Not a frou-frou thing about it. Just right - like you'd get at places over the Bridge.
Tommy Glasgow is a MD boy through and through. That family is old-time MD and knows their local traditional food.
The Oceanaire crabcake is delicious but it's a "city" crabcake.

                    • I was at Cafe Deluxe in Tysons the other day with a few friends. One of them ordered the crabcake sandwich and said it was really good - haven't had it myself though. There's a Cafe Deluxe in DC - on Wisconsin in Cleveland Park.

                        1. I know you said in Wash. but the line on Piedmont Air (the best little airline anywhere) has me saying head for Edgewater Md (a few miles south of Annapolis) and visit the Edgewater Restaurant ... it's like walking back into the 60's -- knotty pine paneling and all. Family run, awesome crabcakes. You will thank me! (warning they close Mon and Tuesd.)

JRCann-- how can I resist? You sold me! --- I will head to Edgewater as soon as we hit the east coast :)-- Sounds perfect-- I wll post my review upon my return.. And yes, Piedmont was a great airline-- Thank you all for your suggestions --
