This farm in Islip has pies that are relatively "homemade" (like most) but not sure if they're still open? http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/650866 I'm not a big fan of Briermere myself, and I live 5 minutes away! Way too overpriced for what you get.
I'm not a huge Briermere fan either. They're pretty good for "store bought", but certainly not home-made tasting. Too much gel to fruit ratio, crust is not tough per se, but not flaky and layered, either.
