Bham--real tacos?
Where can I find real tacos...on a soft tortilla, meat, with chopped onion, cilantro, etc. I'm hoping to find a sit down place where these can be acquired at a reasonable price for dinner.

Best bets (as seen on the above-mentioned thread):
(1) Gordo's on Valley
(2) Taqueria Guzman taco truck on West Valley
(3) Taqueria Mi Casia in Palaisades
(4) Taqueria La Reyna on Valley
(5) Taqueria Mexico on Lorna Road
(6) In Bessemer: La Perla.
Here's a Birmingham News article with addresses, etc.:

I want to like La Reyna as I love their tamales and the homemade tortillas but the meat for their tacos are consistently been weak - underseasoned, too much pineapple, too fatty, etc. Gordos and Guzman kill it.

what are the hours of the taco truck on Valley?

Pretty much lunch to early evening Tuesday thru Thursday. When the nearby club was open, the taco truck stayed open late Friday and Saturday -- midnightish. Not sure if that is the case now. They're closed on Monday. Sunday, I simply don't recall.

I think they are typically open during the day on Sundays because that is mostly when I have eaten there. I sometimes stop in for a taco appetizer before eating dinner at Red Pearl.

I haven't been on the great Taco hunt yet, maybe during the holidays I will. I would love to know what your thoughts are after you give the places a try.

Went to Taqueria Mexico on Lorna Rd tonight...had one with chorizo and one with carnitas...usually chorizo is my favorite but here I liked the carnitas better. Not the best I've ever had, but good enough. Apparently on Saturdays and Sundays they have birria tacos, so if I go again I'll be sure to go one of those days so I can try them!
I'll let you know about my next stop...hopefully the taco truck!

I want to get by Taqueria Mexico to try their cabrito, too.

We tried Taqueria Mi Casita on Palisades tonight. Tried the carnitas, chorizo and egg, asada, chicken, and cactus and egg tacos. They came naked, and then we got cups with cilantro and onion, salsa verde, and pickled peppers/carrots, to serve ourselves with. The cactus and egg tacos were everyone's favorite, followed by carnitas. Chicken was so-so, and chorizo would have been better without the egg. They also had Mexican coke with sugar. The service was excellent, but we were also the only ones in there. Not sure if I liked the tacos themselves better than the ones at Taqueria Mexico, but there were a lot more meat choices.

I had a carnitas torta at Taqueria Mexico the other day -- still one of the best in town. Get 'em all the way,
