New Years Eve - Times Square or some other interesting view

Hi,
my parents would like to visit New York City for the New Years Eve. Do you know of any good (or at least decent) restaurant on Times Square, preferably with a view of the ball where they could spend the night? They are in their 60s, would like a good view and some dancing. Can spend up to $1000 pp.

If there is nothing good on the Times Square, do you have any other suggestions for good food with dancing and with great views? Cuisine does not matter, setting can be fancy, not necessarily very formal. Good food is essential.

Thank you very much for help!

You have to be out of your mind to do Times Square on New Years!!! That is the last place I would go-too big a crowd!!

The only restaurant I can think that might meet your requirement of seeing the ball dropped might be The View Restaurant in The Marriott Marquis in Times Square. The restaurant revolves, so the view changes. I was there many years ago and it was good, not necessarily great. I would suggest that you call up and ask if the ball that's dropped on the Times Building is visible from that restaurant.
