Fry pan with only one tbsp oil?

I have heard of this new fry pan that lets you "fry" a tonne of "french fries" in only 1 tbsp of oil? Does anyone know what I'm talking about and what its called?

    1. Is this the fabled Brooklyn Bridge cookware?

I'm sure it's sold by infomercial.....for $19.95...but wait, you get two for the price of one......just pay separate shipping and handling........New Jersey and California residents....please add appropriate sales taxes.

          • Hmm... Never heard of it. I don't think it makes sense because potato absorbs a lot of oil, so I don't see how unless you simply coat the potato with oil instead of submerge in oil. But if that is the case, we call that bake french fries and you don't need special tool for that.

We have genetically modified potatoes which have more starch and less water. One of the original ideas is that they will be healthier for French fries and other frying process because less oil will be absorbed. Oil can only displace water, not starch, so a potato with less water and more starch cannot absorb as much oil. It was a scientific success. These potato, indeed, produce healthier French fries. Problem? It was a marketing failure. People do not like the taste. At the end, it is the oil which makes the fries taste good.

            So there you go.

$50 will buy a Cast iron skillet and a gallon of oil...$300 will buy a heck of a lot of potatoes!
                          I don't wonder at all...... :)

                          Fun!
