Hunan chili pepper seeds
I have found a few places that sell some sort of Chinese hot peppers, like these: http://www.evergreenseeds.com/hotpepchic.html
but I don't think they're quite what I'm looking for. Does anyone know a US or Canada based mail order source for Hunan chili peppers(湖南辣椒)? They look roughly like this:

(rounded bottom, roughly like serranos, but spicier and more flavorful
I have heard that some of the local restaurants grow their own, but they didn't seem even willing to sell the peppers themselves, much less seeds.
Are you able to purchase fresh red peppers of this variety in a Chinese market? If so, you can plant those seeds. I've been fairly successful using this method. However, it's possible that if there was cross pollination, you may not end up with a plant that breeds true.
Alternatively, if you can purchase dried peppers of the desired variety , you can try to grow plants from these. I've not done this before. If you do this, I'd advise you take seeds from several peppers, wrap in a damp paper towel, put in a ziploc bag, and place in a warm location. Check every day; plant the seeds that sprout.
Good luck
