Brunch Report on a recent Saturday in the Quarter
My cousin and I were in the Quarter for a short weekend last weekend and both decided we wanted Brunch, some poached egg dish with hollandaise type thing. It was after noon since we went through the insectarium (nice! and did not spoil our appetites) so we walked and asked, and walked and asked. He is very familiar with the Quarter so we went to lots of places, like Mr B's, etc.
NONE of them were serving a traditional Brunch - - what's up with THAT?! We ended up at The Coffee Pot, which was his first thought anyway. The women working there have all been there forever, a good sign. It was a bit chilly to eat outside, but they appeared to have a nice courtyard seating.
I had Eggs Sardou - english muffin, artichoke heart, sauteed spinach, poached eggs, Hollandaise - there were two of them, and a side of bacon. The bacon was good bacon, and lots of it. My cousin had Eggs Jonathon, which I don't know exactly what it was since I was not eating it - except for stealing a few of the fried potatoes.
I had coffee (decent) and he had what he said may have been the best bloody mary he's had, and he is not slouch when it comes to bloodies.
That evening we ate at Maximo's. I was not that enthused about an Italian place, but New Orleans can have some butt-kicking italian food. They had a crawfish pasta dish on the menu so I was happy. We shared a grilled artichoke, some prosecco and I had the Crawfish Diable. It was nicly spicy and very well done.
I was not unhappy with the broiled oysters and crawfish and crab at Deannie's but it was not note-worthy, just pretty good.
I think Stanley would have fit the bill for a poached-eggs-and-hollandaise brunch.

Mr. B's does have traditional brunch items such as eggs benedict, shrimp and grits, omelettes, it always has - and their bloody marys are fantastic, much better than the Coffee Pot!
