    1. Some suggestions:

      1. Thirty Two, beautiful mansion & probably the best standalone Continental-style restaurant in Penang.

      2. The new Hard Rock Hotel, and currently the hottest spot in Penang - nuff said!

      3. A favourite special-occasion restaurant in Penang: the Ferringhi Grill at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.

      4. My personal favourite - fusion-Chinese restaurant Sesame + Soy at the ultra-hip G Hotel on the Gurney Drive promenade:

      5. For something a bit different - how about Tarbush Lebanese restaurant?

BTW, this thread should be posted on Greater Asia if you want more responses.

Many thanks for this info. Unable to get internet for ages so we ended up at the E & O and was dissapointed as it was just too busy. Its usually fab!

Hard rock is great as is the G hotel - soy (beef teriaki...mmmm) & the Rasa

will try the other 2 in the 4 months we have left here in Penang.

Do also try the street food and hawker fares as Penang is well known for it's street food. Char Koay Teow (Fried flat rice noodles), Curry Mee, Prawn Mee and many many more.

Notable places to visit would be the Gurney Drive area and Northam Beach (across the road from Northam All Suites Hotel, about 10 minutes walk)

Northam beach hawkers are fab. Love the food here. I went home for 2 weeks (UK) and couldnt find anything to eat ha ha ha!

If you're in London, you can get your Penang fix at Sedap, Old Street:
