Tokyo crowned world's top Michelin three-star city

Tokyo has overtaken Paris as the city with the most Michelin three-star restaurants, cementing its status as the "world capital of gastronomy", the publisher of the culinary guide announced on Tuesday.

The latest edition of the Michelin guide to the Japanese capital awarded 11 eateries the coveted three stars, against 10 in Paris.

Tokyo also kept its title as the world's most-decorated city with 261 stars in total - 34 more than last year - awarded to 197 restaurants.

    1. Hi FourSeasons, there are a couple of new 2 stars restaurants seem interesting. I have cross-referenced them on Tabelog and they have good reviews there too. One of them is 青草窠 , the dishes and the place looks good !

IMHO, the symbol of the 3 stars correspond to another image : the mass media of the chef. That said, Tokyo and it 3 stars are now the reflecting image ? The “haute cuisine’’ greatly influence our contemporary cooking. Tokyo and his 3 stars chefs, not speaking here about the comfort Japanese food, can they inspire homecooking as :
Lukewarm chocolate biscuit of Michel Bras
          Artichoke soup of Guy Savoy
Duck with honey + spice (Apicius) of Alain Senderes
          Liquid quiche of Thierry Marx
Spices Pastilla poultry of Pierre Gagnaire
          Truffles of Alain Ducasse
Sorrel – salmon of Trois Gros
Perhaps, the ideas will come surely from our French chef who are attracted by Tokyo and they will implement their Japanese adaptation.

              Hi SkylineR33:

Thanks for the info. This is the first time I have heard about 青草窠. I thought some of the 2 stars restaurants are even better than the 3 stars...

              • Hi FourSeasons,

Sugoi! It's impressive. :) Please let us know if you run across the full list of all winners this year. Thanks.
