Perfect San Francisco Restaurant for Gift Certificate

  • 4

My friend is moving to San Francisco and I would like to give her a $100 gift certificate to a restaurant. I am looking for a restaurant that is not "touristy". We are both in our early 30's and definite "foodies". I would like something her and her husband can go to that has great food, fun atmosphere and preferably unique to San Fran. A place that will give her a great introduction to the restaurant scene and let her know how lucky she is to be moving to a city with such great restaurants to choose from. I am not familiar with the different areas within San Fran so it is difficult for me to focus on one in particular. Ideally the restaurant would be in an area where maybe there are some bars to go to or a safe/fun area to walk around before or after dinner. This is my ideal restaurant. The most important thing I am looking for is great food, atmosphere, and service...a fun place to have dinner/drinks where I know she will leave happy. Thanks

  1. I like the beautiful gift certificates at Chez Spencer - adorned with the restaurant's signature art drawings.

Chez Spencer serves amazing food (French-Californian cuisine) in a beautiful space, great atmosphere with full bar and open kitchen, attentive service without the stuffiness - and the Japanese Whiskey bar next door makes for an interesting stop for a night cap ...

    1. I have not looked at Chez Spencer yet...I will do some research.

Some other restaurants I am interested in after reading some reviews included Aziza, Frascati, Range, Ame, La Folie (worried Le Folie may be too expensive if I am only giving a $100 gift certificate).

A friend of a friend recommended Kokkari, Delfina, Spruce and A16 (worried about A16 b/c I heard the chef left recently).

Any thoughts on these restaurants or others would be appreciated. As I said, I would prefer a restaurant in a good area where they can get a drink or take a walk before and after dinner.

      Thanks

Ame and Spruce are higher priced, so your concern with $100 for La Folie would apply for them as well. Your other choices are nice and the fact that the g.c.'s at Chez Spencer are so attractive is another plus for them IMO.

Thats a good point about Ame and Spruce. Just looked them up and saw that.

I just looked at Chez Spencer and the gift certificates are nice. Thanks for the help.
