Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the Tristate Area

Good Diner in NW Nassau Between LIE & Northern?

I've just lost my go-to diner, the Landmark in Roslyn (right across the street from Whole Foods). I'd always loved their home fries and their matzoh ball soup (the latter was the best I've ever found in a restaurant), but first their service fell apart and now their food has, as well. And they're soon to move into a shiny multi-floor monstrosity nearby.

So I need a good diner (by good, I mean staples like omelets and soup and such) in that general area - i.e. Little Neck to Glen Cove, Northern Blvd to LIE. I once found a great sort of hidden diner in Glen Cove, not far from Northern Blvd, but never found it again.

Also wondering if anyone's gone to Persian Grill in Willis Ave lately, sort of Persian diner food in a repurposed old diner.

  1. Hey, the Places auto-tagging is working like a charm (that's Charm Bistro, Cincinnati, OH!).

Thanks for the link! Is that the best of the local Persians, in your opinion?

The diner opposite the driving range, further west, is the now closed P&J AKA Seville.

Scobee was never any good, though I've not been in years (cuz it wasn't very good). Has it gotten good? If not....please note that I'm looking for good diners, not just diners! :)

          2. It is extremely close to your specified area, being a single traffic light from Northern on Glen Cove Road, so I'll throw out the Greenvale Diner as a solid and reliable choice for diner staples like omelets, soup et al.

The Greenvale Townhouse, right? Is that still there? There's been a lot of construction in the area, but I didn't think that lot was touched- maybe that's what Jim was thinking about. I haven't been there since the 90's, but back then it was worth the trip down from Glen Cove.

I'm across the Hudson now but lately, when I've been staying over for a weekend, we've hit up Andros Grill (in Glen Cove proper) for breakfast and they have done a really solid job. Hopefully it hasn't changed much, but the breakfast special that has like two of everything features some amazing sausage and french toast- the sausage in particular really rock, very plump and juicy with a serious dose of rosemary that hits your nose the second you cut into one. I'm looking forward to being there over the next month or so, hoping it's still the same.
