Tre Scalini during "Extended Restaurant Week"
We had dinner at Tre Scalini Saturday night and didn't expect to be offered a "Restaurant Week" menu. They extended it thru Sunday...
Valet parking is nice and they have a hat-check Lady. Service is first-rate. What I don't get is the filthy carpet! Do they think that people don't look down? This is a very classy restaurant where we have had many excellent meals...
The food and service was good.
I had a blackened calamari steak. Like Foster's, the calamari was quite thick. They sliced their after blackening. It was quite spicy, but overcooked. Not shoe leather, but not the succulence of Foster's. SO had the antipasta "assortment". This was all good as you would expect: Good cheese, good prosciutto and good other stuff...
SO had pork tenderloin with a Marsala and mushroom reduction that was just barely beyond medium rare. I had the stuffed pork chop. Stuffed with spinach and peppers and (?) it was quite good. Milder sauce on the chop, by far, than the tenderloin. Both very good.
This was where they cheaped out: Plain steamed vegetables and plain mashed potatoes. Really a no-frills meal. Dried parsley on the plate does not have a "wow" factor with us.
My dessert of "pear crisp" was unspectacular, while SO's pumpkin cheesecake was quite good. Did they make it?
We thought the value of the meal was good. I don't like Tre Scalini looking "down at the heels".
I think they are on-par with L'Orcio. Service was good, but slightly rushed and seemed focused on "a cheap meal being served", so I feel service was slightly attenuated. I just feel you can't just serve good food and have good service; you have to have a clean restaurant. Carpet is cheap!
