Holiday dinner for 14, East side, $100 pp all-in?

I've been asked to come up with some ideas for a dinner for the women at my firm, in the East 50s, 60s or 70s, where we can dine for $100 per person (including drinks, tip). I'd like something a little upscale (though I know that's tough for the price), quiet enough where we can hear each other speak, but not stiff or quiet. A private room would be great, but between the holiday season and the size of the party I know that may not be possible. Any suggestions, hounds??

Uva, on 2nd ave and 77th st, has a wine cellar for private groups. They are a moderately priced Italian restaurant/wine bar. I bet you'd be able to fit the budget easily. It's not upscale per se, but it's quite cozy, and it's not stiff or quiet.

Any ideas for locations away from the upper east side? I'm open to midtown, all the way down to Tribeca and I can up the price slightly to $125 per person all-in. Thanks

Check with Luna Piena - see if they'll open the upstairs room for you - Or give you the far back against the wall in the old garden/deck area. There's a separate section in La Mangeoire which seats about that number - so you'd control your own noise. They're both on East 53d.
