Hot food challenges on Long Island?

Anyone know of any? The only one I've found is Tumbleweeds in Port Jeff:

Personally, I'm not really interested in the quantity challenges.

Um, I asked about hot food challenges and said I wasn't interested in quantity challenges.

Any one piggie who accomplishes such a feat truly deserves their spot on The Swingbelly Wall of Fame!

That was my first reaction. That's what, 2lbs of meat, tops?

                      2 things,

i guess i don't know what a hot food challenge is. What are you referring to? Oh do you mean Heat hot, spicy food challenges??

I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but its a ton of food. The rack of ribs is as wide as placemat, and i'm pretty sure its more then a 1/4 pound of the other meats they mention. 4 wings is actually 4 full wings, not 8 wing pieces. I've ordered this before with my wife, and it took the two of us 2 meals to finish it.

                        1. re: jpf1980

Could be. I'm just going by description. A full rack of ribs is about 1.5 of meat. Add 1/4 lb each of pork and beef. 4 full wings is maybe 1/2 lb of meat, tops.

A bit over 2 pounds of meat isn't chicken feed, but it's not up to the level of a food challenge. I suspect it's more of a marketing ploy to get folks to order it (it's not free if you finish).

                    2. Just wanted to say that while I'm located up in Dutchess County, I'm always looking for hot/spicy food challenges as well. The only one I've done so far is at Buffalo Wild Wings in Port Chester, where you have to eat 12 of their hottest wings in 6 minutes. I ate 10.5...the wings were gigantic, and I just couldn't chew fast enough! Anyway, although I don't have any input for LI ideas, just wanted to say good luck in finding some! The only other one I have in mind right now is the phaal curry challenge at the Brick Lane Curry House in NYC.

Six minutes? Geez. About as much a speed contest as a spicy challenge! Were they really hot?

I'm going to give that Tumbleweeds challenge a try; the only question is when.

                            1. re: Scott_R

All I know is the few times I've eaten at a Buffalo Wild Wings, I've ordered the hottest wings listed on the menu, and this Buffalo native would consider them on the hot side of medium. No biggie. My kids order one level down from there.

                                  Drat, is this a chain?

                                    1. re: Scott_R

Oh yeah, pretty big one too. Not awful for wings, at least they don't bread them or bake them.

                                        1. re: sbp

I believe there is a Buffalo Wild wings in Deer park or Babylon or something like that.

                                            1. re: jpf1980

There's one by the Smithhaven Mall

                                        2. re: Scott_R

Yeah, they definitely were nowhere near the hottest wings I've ever had. Any chain can't really have the hottest wings ever, I feel like, just b/c they are a chain. I'm not really into speed challenges either, but that one didn't seem too out of reach. My two (male) coworkers who accompanied me both finished with time to spare. Guess my mouth is just smaller!

                                            1. re: Solstice444

Tumbleweeds is no longer in existence--as a drive to Port Jeff revealed--so I suppose there aren't any spicy food challenges on LI.
