"The 13 Spices"?

Hi all - I brought home a package of this interesting looking stuff from an Asian market, but have no idea what to do with it, and have found next to nothing about it online. Anyone familiar with it and can share your recipe(s)? - Cheers, Bob

    1. Does it list the spices?

Yes, thanks: Chinese prickly ash, Chinese aniseed, common lennel fruit, cinnamon, dried ginger, pepper, tangerine peel, ginger, clove, sesame, chili, tsaoko cardamom, nutmeg, amomun fruit.

I think above should read "common fennel fruit". - B

"Fennel fruit" confused me at first, but it's apparently just another name for fennel seed. I've never heard anyone say "fennel fruit," at least not in the US.

Results from direct translation from Chinese, the character for fruit appears in a lot of spice names (fennel is 茴香 cao guo, literallt straw/grass fruit).

                2. i've never seen it nor cooked with it, but i was thinking the ingredients sound like they'd be good as a dry rub on a cubed pork dish that was then stir-fried, and then braised with perhaps some stock and fresh orange juice (sour orange would be good). sort of like chinese carnitas (via cuba)!
