ISO a Bistro French or Italian in San Diego or Coranodo - great food, casual and not to pricey
Am going to have my birthday in San Diego with my husband and friends....a great view would be nice........would prefer charming and cozy over pricey and noise................I was looking in La Jolla but I think we would rather be closer to San Diego.........
Any bay views or ocean views would be nice too!
If you are interested in charming, cozy, noisy and reasonable, you could try Luc's Bistro. We ate there a couple of nights ago and had a delicious dinner, appetizers, wine and dessert. The total for two of us was about $42. It was rather noisy though and no view; it's quite far inland in Poway. It took us about 25 minutes to get there from La Jolla.

Cannot in good concious recommend Chez Loma. We ate there during our nine nights in S.D. and it was the worst of the nine nights. Food was mediocre to poor but seeing garbage being carried out and hearing the staff swearing(Fword) was too much. Nice ambience though. Virtually empty, never a good sign. Waiter..."It's all good". Again, never a good sign. A waiter always knows what's good. Cafe Chloe was good but we had the steak frites which is pretty hard to screw up. On an odd note, not only are the tables small but the chair seats are tiny. My wife said she's sat on more comfortable toilet seats.

"hearing the staff swearing(Fword) was too much"
Interesting, I didn't know people swore in Coronado. And I am surprised it is actually legal there.
"It's all good".
That is part of san diego's waiter school that every waiter must attend.

Did you let management know about the F bombs being dropped within earshot of guests...'It's all good' is the mainstay vernacular of every waiter in SD..
It's been awhile since dining at Chez Loma..used to be quite good and charming.
Cafe Chloe's chairs are extremely uncomfortable and some of the chairs feel like they are going to collapse..and btw, I'm a fit chick!

No bay or ocean views, but Cafe Chloe is charming with delicious food - and it's downtown San Diego.

In Coronado, you can go to Chez Loma for French and Il Fornaio for Italian.
Cafe Chloe is excellent in East Village/Gaslamp.

Second both Cafe Chloe and Chez Loma. Both are cozy and quiet, and appropriate for quiet gatherings.
The Marine Room in La Jolla is a more of a fun choice, as it located ON the water. The service is good. The food is mildly boring, but the atmosphere is pleasant.
Also, no view, but The Farmhouse Cafe on Adams Avenue has great food and excellent service.

You might want to look at Baci on Morena Blvd. It is very good and traditional. People tend to be a bit dressy when they dine there. We have never been disapointed and reservations are a must.

If you want to see the movers and shakers in SD, all you need to do is go to Baci's..

"movers and shakers" of old school SD.
The new school doesn't even know where it is.

Ha!
Old school is so cool, that we really don't want the 'new school' to know where we are..

I love the Pasta Quatro Farmaggi, it is good as a shared starter.
Last time I was there I asked them to make the stuffed Clams as an entree.

They are so good and I had them make them as an entree for me too..

Well, its neither French or Italian, but in Coronado....Candelas by the Bay. You cannot beat the view AND the food and service were excellent when I dined there about 6 months ago.
