Gee's Garden for Dim Sum - Tucson

DriverPhil Nov 15, 2009 03:14 PM

Went to Gee's today (Sunday) for Dim Sum. The food came off the carts hot and fresh, and the service was good.

Very busy, nice to see that in the midst of a general restaurant depression.

Not New York, San Francisco or Vancouver- but pretty darn good all the same

I practically had to force my husband to go there the first time (he just wasn't interested), now he wants to go every Sunday morning. is there another dim sum place in Tucson?

Is that a full buffet there also or just dim sum? Been going to try it for the last 10 years, truck just won't turn into the parking lot for some reason.

You know, I don't think they have a buffet, at least not early on in the day, but you can certainly order off the menu instead of getting dim sum. I haven't gotten that far yet. :-)

If you're a long-time local maybe you have lingering issues with the family unpleasantness of several years back. It appears that the next generation of Gees are running the show now and I have no reason to boycott them.

Yes, they get dinged by the health department on occasion, but they're also one of the busiest kitchens in town, and I think one of the better-run ones.

Is Sunday the only dim sum day there?

They serve dim sum until 3pm. I'd recommend going earlier, though. We got there yesterday at 1:30 and pickings were pretty slim. What we had was very good, though. It's on our list to try again the next time we are in Tucson.

We've gone there early and mid-dim sum. (I can say that now) If you go too early they're still gearing up but not ready for the big Asian-native influx, and that's when yolu want to get there.

Last weekend we saw the mayor and his wife dining with Mr. An, of local restaurant fame.

Dim Sum is available every day. But, if you want best variety and serving from the carts, you need to go Saturday or Sunday.
