How do I create a new Restaurant page?
After much searching I still can't figure it out. Do I have to apply to gain the ability to create a new one or has that been disabled?

Go up to the address bar of the page you want to link to, highlight the the entire URL. Right click your mouse and copy the URL and paste the link to the body of your post. Done.

As KTinNYC says, all you need to do is paste the URL into your post. If it is a full address, i.e., beginning with http://, it will automatically become a clickable "hot" link once the message posts. Note that when the message first posts after you click "Post My Reply," it will not appear to you in blue, but it will still work, and will show in blue to everyone else and to you when you return to the thread.

Oh, sorry. I know how to copy and paste a URL into a post.
I mean creating a link to a place within Chowhound. The ones that, when posted, will be added to a gathering of reviews of a restaurant onto a single page. For example:
http://www.chow.com/restaurants/2199/...
I went to make one today and gave up in frustration.

I'm able to edit. I'd like to create new place links. Thanks for that link. I read it earlier in my search for an answer. It seems dedicated to editing rather than adding, but hopefully they'll help me out.

You have access, so you should be able to edit. Adding is not very intuitive at this point.
Open a new window, then go to this url: http://search.chow.com/search?query=a...
and add from the link at the bottom of that page. This function is very very slow right now, so please wait after you click 'add' for it to take you to the edit page. And, it will then take 5-10 minutes for your new restaurant to appear as a selection in the "link to a place' search.
We've edited the title of this thread to help others find this information.

Thanks. That worked like a charm. There was very little down time between saving and it appearing as an option. Perhaps I got lucky with light traffic.

Sorry, but I don't follow. When I go to the link you just posted, I don't see any link to click on to add a restaurant page.....
When that page loads, it says "Visit other CBS Interactive Sites"
on the bottom left
and
"2009 CBS Interactive Inc. All rights reserved. | Privacy Policy \ Terms of Use"
on the bottom right.
What does the link to add a restaurant page say?
Sorry, you're quite right, "bottom of the page" is misleading, because that's where the footer that appears on every page of the site appears.
What you're looking for is the line that says "Don't see the restaurant you are looking for? Add a Restaurant or Bar" You can click on "Add a Restaurant or Bar" to add a new Restaurant page.

Hmn. I get nothin' either. See screenshot attached. I'm notoriously blind looking for these things though, so maybe I missed something.

I've tried in the latest versions of Firefox and Explorer and I tried doing a search on the page you linked. Under no circumstances can I see the phrase "Don't see the restaurant you are looking for? Add a Restaurant or Bar"

Steve & jlunar - have you folks already requested to be able to edit/add restaurants? If you haven't, then you definitely won't see that link. You can make the request in this thread and an admin-type person will give you access:

Ohhh... helpful. Thanks kpzoo! I thought I was going crazy not seeing this thing.

Yes, I have requested on that thread in mid-october. Also, I *think* I remember getting an e-mail verification back.

You probably need to be set up with access, which we've given to everyone on this thread. Give it a try now (you might have to log out and then back in).

Thank you. This works for me now.
