Another Stellar Review of T. Cooks, Phoenix

It seems that I regularly post raves about our meals at T.Cooks. I am not in their employ nor do I get a pink Cadillac if I say nice things about the restaurant. I just happen to love it. DH and I were married there ten years ago and re-visited for our anniversary lunch last week.

Originally, I had thought NOT to post about this meal as it might be jsut another rave in my long list ..... yawn .......
BUT, there is a new twist on the menu. A $14 special combination menu is set for lunch and I tried this from curiosity. "Soup and Sandwich" was my choice.

Soup du jour was artichoke and I ordered this in a heartbeat. I'm a California native, spent many years in the Monterey region and dearly love artichokes. T.Cook's rendition far outpaced any that I have tasted. The artichokes shone through, they were not obscured by flavorings. The soup was velvety and perfect. DH opted for his favorite lobster-fennel bisque which is always wonderful.

Granted my soup portion was smaller than a usual bowl, on the "bargain" menu, and was ample for my taste. I also chose a fish taco which was a "Do Again". DH, in attack of overkill, opted for the Carbonara.

I make Carbonara at home often and will never, repeat, never begin to duplicate this rendition. House-cured pancetta coupled with fresh pasta were the base ingredients. A crisp nest of prosciutto holding an egg yolk atop the pasta put this over the top. It was rich beyond belief and totally decadent.

Score another hit for T.Cooks.

As we were leaving, we met a couple who'd just arrived for their anniversary weekend. We swaped "where are you from?" stories and recommended a couple of items for these San Francisco natives. Today, I received an e-mail from them stating that Duarte's in Pescadero, a longtime California favorite, was reduced to a very distant second place in the Artichoke Soup category.
