I've had several nice meals at Nick & Nat's Uptown 21. It's at 21 King in Uptown Waterloo.
They source a lot of their ingredients locally, and I would say their menu is an upscale bistro approach. I really enjoyed the choucroute garnie, and have had a couple of nice fish dishes.
They offer a prix fixe every night, with good selection. The menu isn't huge, but it offers nice choice. A good restaurant for Waterloo, fills a void that I think they're otherwise missing.

I second the recommendation; I'd be thrilled to have this as a neighbourhood resto in Toronto, where I live. Professional service, and excellent food.

3rd Uptown 21. I like their roast chicken dinner, and the potato cheddar tortellini (which tastewise are a little perogy-like). The Brazilian cod cakes were not very good.
I also like Verses and Janet Lynn's for upscale continental restaurants in KW.
I've been meaning to try Bhima's Warung, but haven't had a chance yet.
Have also been meaning to try Two Goblets for Mitteleuropean food.

The boyfriend took me to Nick & Nat's Uptown 21 for my birthday, and I wouldn't hesitate to 4th the recommendation. A fabulous meal. The potato and cheddar tortellini was surprising and delicious. He loved his jalapeno martini.

If you want something with a local (perhaps Mennonite) flavour, try the Heidelberg House in Heidelberg, near St Jacob's, which is also a brew pub,and the Blue Moon in Petersburg--good stuff like pigtail or pork hock dinners at both, and although buffets are usually sniffed at on this board, I think the one at the Crossroads Restaurant in Elmira has enough "homemade" content to make it a definite stop. All are within easy reach.

Waterloo has some work to do in this department. I've heard nothing but great things about Uptown 21 as well.
I think Solé has great atmosphere but overpriced mediocre food, same with The Rude Native.
The best meals I've had in Waterloo have been Ben Thanh (Northfield), Ye's Sushi (King near Conestoga Mall), City Cafe for great sandwiches/bagels/bread (Victoria), Al Madina (university plaza at university and phillip) for amazing, super garlicky shwarma, and Matter of Taste for my favourite coffee/espresso.

I've eaten at Wildcraft 3 times. Quality wise & atmosphere wise, I'd say it's roughly equivalent to the Keg. I have enjoyed their salads and pasta, but wasn't impressed with the tilapia (a daily special) that I ordered on my last visit. But admittedly, I haven't tried the heavenly Ahi tuna.
Wildcraft is not exactly amazing in my books- but to each their own;-) It is a pretty good option for food in KW, though.

If you head out Cambridge way Red Basil is a great choice for delicious, fresh Vietnamese food and it's affordably priced. The Crispy Duck is amazing
