Croque Madame?

Bonjour chowhounders...

One of my favourite meals is Croque Madame. I've heard that DBGB do a great one for Brunch but we won't arrive in NYC until the Sunday evening and then leave on the Thursday, so brunch is out.

Can anyone recommend good Croque Madame anywhere in Manhattan on a weekday?

Merci Beaucoup :)

Bar Boulud also does an amazing rendition. Available on their lunch menu.

L'Express makes my favorite croque in town because it closely mirrors what I've had in France. DBGB's version was fine, but not as authentic. The cheese reminded me of the stuff that Pizza Hut uses, the egg was over-cooked and the sandwich wasn't as warm as it could have been. While a large helping of cheese and bread is always welcome in any arena, I still think that L'Express has a leg up on the competition.

I have to second Leah's suggesstion of L'express. They make an awesome Croque and the best part is that it is open 24 hours a day so no matter when you have a craving you can get it satisfied there.
