Best bread pudding in DC?

dc_foodie_girl Nov 13, 2009 10:33 AM

I am in search of the best bread pudding in town - it is my husband's FAV dessert and I want to get it for his birthday, as opposed to the traditional cake/dressed-up dessert at restaurants. Places that serve it OR sell it are fine.

Thanks (in advance), foodies!

Arcadiana makes a great one....almost as good as you can get in New Orleans

Thanks, ChrisVA! Agree with you - Acadiana has one of the best I've ever had!

I might get a lot of sneers at this, but I LOVE bread pudding too, and I order it whenever it's on the menu. After trying a dozen different places, the best bread pudding I've had is at Clyde's, particularly the one at Tower Oaks in Rockville. Can't remember if they have it at other Clyde's locations.

It is incredibly moist, not too sweet, and even non-bread-pudding lovers completely gush over this dish. It is really, really fantastic.

I had some outrageously good bread pudding at KBQ Barbecue in Bowie (I think that's where it is. Someone else was driving). They put something in there besides bread and pudding that I couldn't identify, but it made me eat the whole thing. That's BAD!!!!

The pistachio bread pudding at Corduroy is one of the best desserts I have ever had. Not sure if it is always on the menu, but very worth getting if it is.

Love the banana bread pudding at Oya and the white chocolate bread pudding at Busboys & Poets

YES to Oya's banana bread pudding. It's amazing. Also, I hate to say it, but the bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce at Martin's in Georgetown is the best (and practically only edible) thing on the menu.

Hmmm, haven't tried Martin's but now I am curious! Esp since I am looking for a dessert-only option. I have tried Oya's banana bread pudding and yes, it is deeee-lish!! Thanks for the tip!

Circa in DuPont circle has a good croissant based one. Menu is otherwise just OK.

A few years ago I had an amazing chocolate and vanilla bread pudding at 1789. Probably one of the top 5 desserts I've ever had in my life. My boyfriend and I still talk about it to this day.

I've had insanely good bread pudding at Bardeo in Cleveland Park. I think that DC Coast also has a very good one--or at least used to.

I'm partial to the bread pudding at Coastal Flats. It's a little nontraditional - looks like a mini-bundt cake, but it has a caramel center and served warm with vanilla ice cream. Very, very good.

Tortoise & Hare in Crystal City! Loved it (but it was a while back).

Short Shameful Confession: I find Famous Dave's bread pudding surprisingly good, especially with the praline caramel sauce.
