Hi Chowhound Experts: Manhattan Restaurant Search - Help appreciated
Hi Chowhound-ers!
I'm hoping that some can help me with picking a restaurant.
-needs to take reservations for a party of 15 (example: I wanted Casa Mono but they don't seat parties that big; six is their limit)
- need to be between 14th and 42nd streets and somewhere between 2nd and 8th Avenues
- not too expensive. I'd say out of five dollars signs, I would prefer something that's a two or a three. $$-$$$. Possibly a low four, but not a five.
-Anything except asian or indian. I love asian and indian but this is for a work dinner and I want to pick something broad
-prefer a place that isn't too stuffy or formal
Thanks in advance!!!

As noted above, many restaurants don't take reservations for large parties through Opentable, so you have to call to check. Some ideas in addition to those already mentioned:
Olana
Crispo
Cru
Convivio

re: LeahBaila
Thanks, Leah.
I do use Open Table quite a bit , but I know that chowhound denizens have their finger on the pulse of the awesome (and new) dinner spots which might not be on open table yet (the new and not so new). I put into opentable a table for 15 people at 7pm on 12/8/09 and I selected Murray Hill and no valid restaurants appeared. They all said that they either wouldn't take a reservation for that size, or that my time wasn't available and that nothing was available on 2 hours on either side of 7pm.
Appreciate your help.

re: bella716
NB: a lot of restaurants don't put up capacity for the really large parties on OpenTable.com. Did you try searching in all neighborhoods?
Off the top of my head, focusing on the Gramercy and Flatiron-ish areas...
Almond
Boqueria (not as good as Casa Mono but more traditional Spanish tapas)
Giorgio's of Gramercy (a CH fave)
Bar Stuzzichini
Craftbar
Blue Smoke
Aldea (IIRC the upstairs can be bought out, might be too pricey)
Allegretti (no idea on capacity)

I hear you! After reading your response and looking at the date, it hit me: you're in prime holiday dinner/party season. That's probably why you're not having much luck. Here are some other ideas that are within a close radius to Murray Hill:
Artisanal
Rare Bar & Grill
Kellari Parea
Kellari TavernaLike Kathryn said, you're probably going to have to be bit more flexible in terms of searching beyond the immediate area. I hope this helps!
