Westchester birthday dinner
Hi CHers- I'm looking for a restaurant in Westchester for my birthday dinner next Sunday. I've checked out previous posts and have Xaviars, Red Hat Bistro, and Harvest on Hudson on my list. It will be a pretty large dinner (9 people) with significant others. Food quality is paramount over atmosphere. Price is not a factor, but we would like a place that allows jeans and/or smart casual.
What can you guys tell me about those three places or any other suggestions?
Also, in looking on Blue Hill's site, it looks like they only do a 7 course tasting menu. Unfortunately some of the people in the party don't eat meat... any suggestions would be great.

Blue HIll will accommodate a vegetarian tasting menu, but can you get a reservation at this late date is another story! I would totally avoid Bedford Post Farmhouse and Equus but Red Hat is nice though informal and X20 or Restaurant X are good choices.

Never been to Bedford Post Inn, but I don't think jeans would be appropriate for dinner at Equus or X20. Recently had a wonderful dinner at Peter Pratts, and jeans are fine there.

I like x20 and would avoid Harvest on Hudson. We were at HOH and thought the food was awful. I think they are known for their location on the water. X2O is also on the water and we thought the food was very good and the views much nicer. Never been to Xaviers or Red Hat, they both get nice write-ups.
Enjoy wherever you go and Happy B'day, kicks!

re: intrepid
I've worn trouser type jeans to X2O.... people seem to range between smart casual and dressy, depending on age group/occasion. I would not wear jeans to Equus. However, whether or not X2O will have a res for this Sunday (or do you mean the 22nd?) is questionable....
Update: Just checked on Open Table and they don't have a table for 9 for dinner this Sunday. Next Sunday's pulling up either a 5:30 or 9 PM res, nothing in between. It might be worth a call.

Many restaurants do not allow Open Table to book large parties in prime hours -- or at all. Do call.
Nice jeans would be fine at X2O, which would likely be my choice. Blue Hill will accommodate vegetarianism or any other personal preferences on tasting menu.-----

re: surman
My girlfriend took me to Blue Hill in NYC for my birthday on Friday (she's a keeper) and the food was great.
I think I'm going to try to get a reservation at X20 as that seems to be a consensus. I'll let you know how it goes.

By your first three choices, kicks, I don't know if you're disposed to the Hudson side, but a few miles east on the Sound Side of WC, there's a wonderful country French place that gets little play on these boards... La Panitiere in Rye.

It's been there for over a quarter centery so doesn't qualify as the great new Find that gets CH threads going. That said, this grande dame is a damn good one... the best French in the county... and more relaxedf than Hinklemann in Greenwich. The souflee itself is worth the trip... and they do tasting, ala carte, and price fixe. It's a great place to while away a Sunday afternoon with friends -- when I think the dress policy isn't all that stringent.
If price is no object, just perfectly prepared and served food, this could be the place
