Trying to satisfy a late night hunger desire on tuesday, I found (no it found me) Monte's Pizzeria in Old Bethpage. Buried in a small shopping center on a road surrounded by a mix of industrial buildings and residential homes, I walk in to see modern Italian pizzeria look with dark wood, tuscan biege tiles and over 100 lights to accent their pride of ownership. I was quickly drawn to the glass which displayed all their pizza treasures. One pie struck me instantly and I knew I had to have it...the "Riceball Pie". It had all the ingredients that my mother used in her recipe. I took a bite and there it was...a slice of heaven. Someone had made the perfect hybrid pizza. The rice mixed with peas, ground meat, yummy sauce, under a layer of melted mozzarella and just the right amount of bread crumbs. So good, I went back for lunch the next day to share this food wealth with my brother. And now with all of you. Enjoy!

Closed on Sundays, they make this pie daily.
