People Smack Me When I Say I Don't Like Tacodeli & P. Terry's
But I just don't care for their food. I think others in town do it better. I just don't get the appeal of either spot. But they both have rabid followers! On the other hand, I'm just as rabid in my adoration of thin crust pizza from Frank & Angie's. It's wonderful that Austin has such a large number of pizza/taco/hamburger restaurants & trailers so that we can all find our favorites. Favorites like Juan in a Million's Don Juan breakfast taco or Hat Creek Burger's french fries or Mike's Pub's greasy cheeseburgers or lengua tortas from Taqueria Arandas on S. 1st. Variety, you are the spice of life, even within a genre.

i agree about P.Terry's. their burger doesn't have much flavor and there is way too much lettuce overwhelming everything. of course, i could get it without the lettuce, but i still don't think i would like it much better.
As for Tacodeli, i like some of their breakfast tacos, such as the Jess Special, and one of the fish tacos i had there was decent. but the rest, i could easily pass on. -
I've just started liking P. Terry's actually. The secret, at least for me, is a double cheeseburger or a chicken burger (add pickles). If it's just for a plain cheeseburger or burger, then no thank you. And it's not even remotely my favorite burger, it's just that now, if I want a burger close to me (south), I have an option that's not a national fast food chain.
As for Taco Deli, I love the Jess's Special breakfast taco (migas taco with avocado) with Dona salsa, but everything else I've had there has been pretty mediocre. I still like it better than Torchy's or Garridos, but not even close to Al Pastor.

I haven't tried Tacodeli but will agree on the P.Terry's.The patty was the smallest buger patty I've ever had and I had to scrape the gobs of mustard off. Not a fan of shoestring fries either.
Another overrated Austin local I'll add to my list is Torchy's. Decent tacos but sooo overpriced I haven't been back.-----

Agree 100% on Tacodeli. Tried it a few times, always packed. Did not enjoy the food.
Have yet to try P. Terry's. Going to be hard to beat Hat Creek and Top Notch though in the thin patty burger department...

re: wwiggins
I like some of Tacodeli's offerings (mmm mojo fish taco), but I would never harass someone for not liking it. I hate how crowded it gets and how they completely neglect the coffee after 11 am. Also the tortas are no bueno.
Agreed on P.Terry's. I don't get why people like this place. There are far, far better local burger joints around Austin.

I'm with you on the P. Terry's, but don't jive talk Tacodeli! Then again, I can't stand the food at Juan in a Million and I like the burgers at Five Guys. So. Yes, to each their own marching drummer and whatnot make the different strokes of the world go round.

P. Terry's struck me as overrated too. I'm still convinced of Mike's Pub's chow-worthiness for burgers.
I can't get the Tacodeli fascination -- or Taco Shack either...

No weekends, but it's worth a trip when they are open.

I'm another person who doesn't really get the P. Terry's love. I've eaten there twice. First time was a notable disappointment, and the second time was blah. Is it because it's local? I dunno. Don't get it. I've never tried Tacodeli
you aren't alone.
