Favorite dish in Boston area - under $15

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed the "ten best things to eat in Boston" thread, I need a manageable (and affordable) go to list that I can start working my way through.

The only rule - you can only name ONE dish, the restaurant has to be in greater Boston and it must be less than $15. Any course (including desserts) is okay.

My pick - the spicy salted ribs at Great Taste in Chinatown.

  1. One of the salads at Za: Hass Avocado, Black Bean, Tomato, Red Onion, Cheddar Cheese, Bread 'n' Butter Pickled Jalapeno, Red Pepper, and Cilantro Salad with Cumin-Lime Vinaigrette, Sour Cream, and Tortilla Crunch

Great choice. I'm not a huge fan of their pizza, but I always agree when my wife wants to go because I can get this salad.

    2. I'm going to go with the tortellini soup at Alia in Winthrop. The taste, the smell, and simply the look of it is so good that I almost get weepy thinking about it.

      1. Maybe the smoked blufish cakes at Highland Kitchen, or (when they have them) the grilled sardines at Rendezvous.

        1. Not a dish but the Bahn Mi sandwich for $3.50 at Pho Viet in the old Super 88 food court. Also, a new favorite: the $14.95 double lobster special with scallion and ginger at China Star of Lowell. Oh, and one more: Ming's Bings, 3 dumpling sliders, duck, pork and cheeseburger at Blue Ginger's lounge, I think it is around $12.

I second, slightly differently.. the bahn mi at King Do down in Dot.. and and up-and-comer - the dolsot bibimbap at the H-Mart near Burlington - my rice was sizzling in that stone pot for like 10 minutes..

I made my first venture to H-Mart today. Major chaos! My stomach rumbled from the "food court" but it was too crowded to get close. I'llhave to try the bibimbap another time!

Most of the H-mart staff seems to eat there - the Korean-specific place on the far end. And yes, seating is tough.. I had to hover for a while near someone finishing their meal so we could score his table.

          2. this is hard... but my favorite dish at the moment is the sautéed potato gnocchi with squash puree, asparagus and almonds at the Sel de La Terre in Natick. I think it might be $15.... maybe slightly higher- whoops.
