Consolidated threads

I did a brief search and didn't find mention of this recently.

Do moderators have the ability to consolidate threads? Every other week, posters ask the same questions such as "What type of pan/knife/[insert item] should I get?" or "Where can I dine alone in city xxxxx?"

Done judiciously, it can help clear up some clutter and encourage people to use the search function more often.
