Nickel's Grille Woburn -- Is it the Canadian one?

Hi --

Noticed in the Openings and Closings that Nickel's Grille is opening where Friday's used to be in Woburn. Does anyone know if this is, in fact, the same chain that's in Canada or just another "resto bar" with a similar name?

If it is the same as in Canada with the same menu, I'll be in heaven. Pizzaghetti and poutine!

  1. I found their job posting on Craigslist and one thing that I notice is the chain in Canada doesn't use the "e" at the end of their Grill so I'm thinking it's not affiliated: http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/fbh/...

    1. I talked with someone at the place and she said that it is an independent restaurant. They should be open in a few weeks.

      1. Any reports? I saw that it was opening December 7th, and we're thinking about stopping in this Thursday.

I've been trying to find out if they did indeed open, but haven't been able to yet. Has anyone heard anything of late?

        2. Nickel's is definitely open. I was told that they were only open for dinner late last week and over the weekend, but as of this week they are now open for both lunch and dinner.

Do yourself a favor and skip this one, we went tonight and not only was the food was pretty horrible but service wasn't much better either.

As for the place itself, it was as if they took down all the Fridays flare, put up some wallboard and painted everything white with pendant lighting. It reminded me of the Tanner Tavern with way too much big open empty space, like a bingo hall.

The prices were about what you would pay at NYAJs if not a little more and the quality of the food was worse. I had hoped they would do something more with it but unfortunately it was a let down.

Agreed. I went there for lunch yesterday. I had a chicken sandwich on French bread with fries. Boring chicken breast with a little iceberg lettuce and a lame slice of bland tomato. The fries were of the pre-frozen variety, and the portion pretty scanty.

The service was slow, especially for lunch. My DC ordered a blackened chicken sandwich, which didn't look much better than mine, but our meal took at least 20 mintues to come out of the kitchen. It wasn't because they were busy. We got there a few minutes before noon, and the place was mostly empty.

They were really good at holding the door open for us, though.
