Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the New England

New Haven RW - Heirloom

We went with friends last night and I have to give it over all a thumbs up. I am tough to please too, especially on RW where they typically cheap down the menu and pre-prepare and rush you thru. BUT we did not have that experience at Heirloom.

Our reservations were at 7:30pm we were seated promptly at a table for 7 and the service was attentive but not annoyingly so - never felt rushed to turn the table over. I had the Maine Crab Cake, Pork Chop, and Sorbet.

A quick note about their wine list, they had some great bottles and a decent selection of bottles for under 50$ both in the white and red category I recognized numerous bottles so they are definitely buying with the wine mags in mind. We had a Malbec from Chile (Mendoza) that was great and the rest of the table shared an oaked Chard out of the williment valley.

the crab cake was perfectly prepared, nice crispy exterior, moist tender inside - not to mayonnaise or over spiced perfect. the only problem I had was it was TINY the size of a large scallop. My Husbands Wedge salad was also good - simple with a blue cheese dressing that was light but not too light. **I felt his was the better portion!!!

The pork Chop was fantastic! it had a cider glaze that was out of this world. the Meat was juicy and tender not at all dry. I suspect they brined them :) it was served with braised greens and sweet potato cubes. the tastes perfectly blended. Again though, while the chop was a great size the veggies were miniscule and definitely left me hungry.

Dessert was raspberry and mango sorbet for me very nice, not too sweet and great texture. Ken had the "Bulldog" brownie and it was good but I think my brownies are better lol.

Afterwards we hung out in the bar at Bespoke - had some very yummy drinks and I had their Carpaccio ap. because I was hungry lol
