Dobbs & Bishop, new Bronxville cheese shop, now open

I have just read that the long-anticipated Bronxville cheese shop is open. I am wondering if anyone has been and what it's like. It sound like they carry some good breads, and I am excited about that since it is difficult to find good bread locally.

May as well link to my original comments here. Finally something opens that is not a disappointment. (i.e. a profusion of Asian Fusion places)

          You've got that right!

          • Dobbs and Bishop Fine Cheeses on Pondfield Road in Bronxville opened 2 weeks ago and it is a must visit! Great selection of cheeses from around the world and excellent bread selection from Bathazar. The also carry some other gourmet items like crackers, fig spread etc. and have great pies for the holidays - also from Balthazar. Really nice people too!

oh, this is great news! Is there a great wine shop (other than Zachy's) nearby???

Bronxville has several wine stores, but I wouldn't necessarily calll them great. The selection seems to be very poor overall in most Westchester wines stores. What they do have is probably decent, but since I don't generally want to spend $30-$50 on a bottle, I have trouble finding the "everyday" sort of wine.

not sure how many wine shops there are in Bronxville but I happen to be visiting family in Bronxville and we stopped in this one shop that was like a gold mine for wine lovers. It was clearly boutique wine shop. I think it was called Station Plaza Wine. My uncle & I who are both wine connoisseurs in the family could have seriously browsed their shelves all day. The staff seemed super knowledgeable and very personable. The prices seemed fair especially since the wines they sell are not your everyday types of wines. My only wish is I had something like this back in LA!

                      2. As a Bronxville resident, I welcome Dobbs and Bishop to Bronxville..it is definitely a nice addition to the village. The young staff is very knowledgable and offers tastes of cheeses. The cheese selection was quite extensive and they carry a small selection of other fine foods. Prices were generally high however..one cheese I purchased was close to $30 a pound. I only brought home a small slice and would have purchased more if the price was a bit more reasonable. I recommend all cheese enthusiasts visit this shop..I hope they survive in this economy.

A cheese store in bville? 6 months to a year

                            • I finally got to pay my first visit to Dobbs and Bishop today, and I was very pleased with the cheese I bought as well as the little ficelle I purchased to go with it. My husband had visited prior to Christmas and had gotten a fantastic roquefort and a Stilton, which we haven't eaten yet. IToday I got a Petit Robert and a goat cheese. My son and I had both for lunch along with the remains of the roquefort, the ficelle and an apple. What a great lunch and what impeccably ripened cheeses! Everything I tasted at the store seemed to be in a perfect state of ripeness. This is a great addition to the neighborhood and I will hold my breath that they survive. In their favor is the fact that it is a small shop and that they haven't gone overboard in stocking it. Also, it is in easy walking distance to the main parking lot near the Food Emporium. Parking is always an issue in Bronxville, so this may help matters for the store. I hope moron66 is wrong and we see this store hang around for the long term.
