2007 Gamay Rouge by V Sattui
Could anyone recommend a similar wine? It is not available on the East Coast, and I would like to buy something similar for the holidays. Rather than having it shipped, I'd like to find a good substitute to avoid shipping fees.
Heitz Grignolino (similar, not as "sweet"), or maybe a Brachetto. I only recall having the Gamay Rouge once and remember a very pronounced strawberry flavor.

Yes the Strawberry flavor is the reason I love it. Thank you for these recommendations, I will try the ASAP, you know, for comparative purposes.

Who says gamay says beaujolais.
Who says beaujolais says beaujolais nouveau.
Who says beaujolais nouveau says November.
Hey! It's November right now.
You're at the right wine at the right time.

Wow, thanks for this, very informative and great to know I have a lot of tasting to do. I love the immature cookie dough comment, because with me it is true. Tannins are too much for me most of the time.

If buying Beaujolais nouveau, make sure you get the 2009 vintage -- the 2008 is already over the hill. The 2009s won't be released until Thursday, November 19.
You might also try some of the Gamays from the Loire valley. Fresh, fruity and supple, best when lightly chilled. Henry Marionnet is a leading producer. His Gamay de Touraine under the Domaine de la Charmoise label is widely distributed. Not a keeper, so look for the most recent vintage, currently the 2008.
